About This Machine

Discomania, manufactured by Nordamatic in 1979, is a late example of the electro-mechanical (EM) era, arriving as solid-state technology was beginning to take over the pinball industry.

Play Discomania for an experience that captures the spirit of the late-1970s disco era. The wedge-shaped head features a maximum displayed point score of 10,999,000 points. According to an Italian collector who has documented the game, only a couple of examples are known to survive, and there is some evidence the backglass may have existed in two variants — one with score reels only, and possibly another with an optional LED 'spinner' display similar to the one used on Nordamatic's 1978 'Atlantis.'

Discomania's design and art are representations of the 1970s disco music scene, with backglass artwork signed by artist Michele "Mike" Martinelli. While little information is available about specific production numbers, Discomania remains an intriguing addition to any pinball enthusiast's collection, offering a glimpse into the character of the electro-mechanical era just before solid-state technology became standard.
