About This Machine

The Univerx, made by Renato Montanari Giochi (trade name R.M.G.) of Bologna, Italy, is an electro-mechanical add-a-ball pinball machine with an outer-space fantasy theme. It is a copy of Gottlieb's 1971 'Galaxie,' itself an add-a-ball game intended for the Italian market; the Univerx's playfield plastics share the same artwork as the U.S. add-a-ball version, Gottlieb's 1971 'Dimension.'

The Univerx's playfield transports players to a fantastical outer-space environment with stand-up targets, kick-out holes, and pop bumpers. The machine features two flippers, two 10-bank drop targets, and four slingshots in total, two of which sit in the upper playfield.

The Univerx's wedge-head cabinet is typical of Italian pinball machines of the era. Its theme, evoking space exploration, is reflected in playfield art shared with its American Gottlieb counterpart. Little further documentation exists on this specific release, but it remains an interesting example of how European manufacturers licensed and adapted American pinball designs for local markets.
