Ambassador (Standard)
About This Machine
The Ambassador (Standard) is a rare early pin game from Stoner Manufacturing Company of Aurora, Illinois, released in February 1933 — the company's first year in business. According to the Encyclopedia of Pinball, it was displayed at the February 1933 Coin Machine Show in Chicago as one of the 'Aristocrat' series of games marketed exclusively by the Chicago Coin Machine Exchange, which was later renamed the Chicago Coin Machine Company.
A purely mechanical, single-player payout machine, the Ambassador offered 1 cent or 5 cent play and was advertised at 37 inches long by 20 inches wide — a typical countertop-era footprint. Its mechanical simplicity places it firmly in pinball's earliest commercial period, before electricity transformed the game later in the decade.
Stoner also produced related 'Ambassador De Luxe Jr.' and 'Ambassador De Luxe Sr.' models in 1933. As a surviving artifact from the dawn of both Stoner's operations and the pinball industry itself, the Ambassador offers a glimpse into the game's formative days.
