Excalibur
About This Machine
The Excalibur pinball machine, crafted by VIFICO S.A. of Malaga, Spain between 1985 and 1989, is a licensed, Spanish-built copy of Premier's 1988 original. It is a solid-state electronic (SS) machine, one of several Gottlieb/Premier designs VIFICO reproduced under license using Gottlieb's System 80B hardware.
This fantasy-themed game takes players on a mythical journey through a world of knights and legend. Key gameplay features include four flippers, one pop bumper, and five banks of drop targets in total — three banks of four targets and two banks of two targets. The machine also boasts kicking targets, two kick-out holes, a ball diverter, and a single ramp, all contributing to the game's dynamic play, and has no slingshots. One unique aspect is the 2-ball multiball mode, which adds an extra layer of challenge and excitement.
The Excalibur's design is notable for its hand-drawn translite, giving the machine a distinctive look that sets it apart from other games of its time. The theme, inspired by Arthurian legend, is rich in symbolism and atmosphere, immersing players in a world of myth and fantasy.
