About This Machine

The Genesis pinball machine is a solid-state game from VIFICO S.A. of Malaga, Spain, produced as a licensed copy of Premier's 1986 'Genesis' under an arrangement with Gottlieb/Premier. Gottlieb shipped the translites, unpopulated playfields, and circuit boards to Spain, while VIFICO built the cabinets and wiring locally. Designed and conceived by John Trudeau, with art by Don Marshall, Ken Hale, and Larry Day, and software by John Buras, Genesis carries a fantasy theme built around its Gottlieb System 80B hardware.

Gameplay features two flippers, four pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 3-bank drop target, two kicking targets, two ramps, a vari-target, and a kick-out hole, along with a 2-ball multiball mode. The machine's signature feature is the 'Regenerator,' an animated toy concealed beneath a dark tinted window at the center of the playfield: when the 'Lifeforce' is lit, a full-stroke shot on the vari-target unveils the Lifeforce robot in a sequence of flashers behind the translite, set to Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor - the same piece used on Gottlieb's 1982 'Haunted House.'

With its photographic translite and animated centerpiece, Genesis offers a distinctive glimpse into the fantasy-themed pinball designs VIFICO produced under license in the mid-1980s, bringing a Gottlieb-designed game to the Spanish and export markets.
