Zeus
About This Machine
Zeus, produced by Centralmatic Lombarda of Milano, Italy in 1979, is a single-player, solid-state electronic pinball machine with a fantasy theme and artwork by Michele 'Mike' Martinelli. It is a one-player adaptation of Williams' four-player 1978 machine 'Flash,' carrying over much of that game's layout.
Gameplay features three flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 5-bank and a 3-bank of drop targets, two standup targets, a spinning target, a kick-out hole, and five star rollovers. The ball is shot into play and travels across the top of the playfield before descending, and the cabinet uses a wedge-head design.
While little is documented about who adapted the game for the Italian market beyond its artist, Zeus is a notable example of how Williams' late-1970s designs were licensed or reworked for European manufacturers such as Centralmatic Lombarda.
