Manhattan
About This Machine
Manhattan, produced by Talleres del Llobregat S.A. (Automaticos) of Barcelona, Spain, circa 1960, is a single-player electro-mechanical pinball machine themed around American nightlife, city scenes, and women, evoking the glamour of New York.
Its gameplay features two reverse flippers and three pop bumpers, along with an extensive layout of 13 rollover buttons for scoring. Distinctive cabinet touches include tubular metal legs and metal rails fitted with a cigarette holder on each side. Scoring is displayed via illuminated bulbs rather than score reels, a common approach on machines of this vintage.
Little further information survives about Manhattan's designer or its market history, but its layout, scoring system, and cabinet details are representative of early-1960s European electro-mechanical pinball design.
