Thunderbirds
About This Machine
Thunderbirds, released by Homepin Ltd of Shenzhen, China in January 2018, brought an adventure/aviation/science-fiction television theme to the modern pinball landscape, licensing the original Thunderbirds TV series music.
The gameplay experience is rich and immersive, with a unique blend of features that set it apart from other machines. The presence of two slingshots, three pop bumpers, and a swinging target creates an engaging and dynamic playing field. A captive ball and Newton ball mechanism are used as part of the game's "Mole" target, one of the toys featuring a tunneling mole vehicle alongside a Thunderbird 2 pod vehicle. Additionally, the machine's use of a diverter, ball elevator, and elevating ramp creates a sense of fluid movement that keeps players engaged.
From a design and art perspective, Thunderbirds boasts striking visuals, with vibrant colors and intricate details that bring its science-fiction theme to life. The machine's use of a translite instead of a backglass is a notable aspect, offering a modern twist on traditional pinball design. The game was produced in both a Domestic (Chinese) Model and an Export Model aimed at Australia, Europe, and Canada, markets where the TV series is well known. No designer is credited for the machine, but for pinball enthusiasts, Thunderbirds' unique blend of gameplay and design elements makes it a notable addition to any collection.
