Star Wars (Original Home Edition)
About This Machine
The Star Wars (Original Home Edition), designed by George Gomez with software by Dean Grover, is a 2019 solid-state pinball machine manufactured by Stern Pinball as a non-commercial home model, officially marketed as the "Star Wars Pin." Its playfield layout is nearly identical to Stern's 2016 'Marvel Spider-Man (Home Edition),' repurposed with Star Wars theming, including toys depicting the Death Star and a TIE fighter. The game originally retailed for $4,499 and saw a second production run in August 2021 at the same price, with Stern reporting no differences from the original 2019 release.
Gameplay features two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, four standup targets, two ramps, a three-bank drop target, a spinning target, and a bar target, along with a 2X scoring mode and multiball modes supporting two, three, or four balls. Both slingshots and the top two pop bumpers operate simultaneously, and custom speech and an LCD display round out the presentation. A translite is used in place of a traditional backglass, and the playfield uses single-color LED lamps.
Later reissued in 2020 with revised graphics as the 'Star Wars (Yellow Stripe Home Edition),' this original version remains a compact, home-oriented take on Stern's Star Wars license, aimed at fans who wanted licensed pinball gameplay without the size and cost of a full commercial cabinet.
