Elvira's House of Horrors (Premium Edition)
About This Machine
Elvira is a significant addition to Stern Pinball's catalog of licensed theme titles, joining the ranks of horror and supernatural icons. Released in 2019, this Solid State Electronic (SS) machine is designed by Dennis Nordman, whose previous credits include other successful Stern titles. As a tribute to the queen of cult cinema, Elvira brings the B-movie charm of its namesake to life on the playfield.
The gameplay experience in Elvira is centered around its unique blend of horror and humor, offering multiple paths for players to explore and numerous modes to unlock. Key features include 11 stand-up targets, two slingshots, a motorized diverter, and a motorized gate controlling orbit shots. The machine's standout feature, however, is the "Crypt," which houses a rotating door that offers access to either a toy skull target or the crypt itself, from which balls can exit via a vertical up-kicker with a scoop deflecting the ball across the middle playfield.
Elvira's design and art are heavily influenced by its horror theme, with a powder-coated black wrinkle-finish side armor giving it an eerie appearance. The use of a translite instead of a traditional backglass adds to the machine's visual appeal. One interesting aspect is the "Make your own dang B-movie trailer" feature, which allows each player to create their unique experience and see a customized trailer at the end of every game. This unique feature has undoubtedly contributed to Elvira's growing popularity among pinball enthusiasts.
