Deluxe Official
About This Machine
The Deluxe Official, manufactured by Mills Novelty Company of Chicago in December 1932, dates from the very beginning of the coin-operated pin game boom of the early 1930s. As a Pure Mechanical (PM) machine, it predates the electro-mechanical designs, powered bumpers, and flippers that would arrive in later decades, offering the simple marble-and-pins gameplay of pinball's earliest commercial era.
This Deluxe model is a variant in Mills' 'Official' family, which also included a counter version and a pin table version released the same year. The Encyclopedia of Pinball Vol. 1 refers to this Deluxe model as "hand crafted", suggesting a level of individual workmanship beyond routine assembly-line production.
Little else is documented about the machine's artwork or theme. For collectors and enthusiasts of vintage pinball, however, the Deluxe Official remains an intriguing piece of history, offering a glimpse into the game's formative, fully mechanical years.
