About This Machine

Lazer Lord is an extremely rare Stern Electronics prototype, with only a single confirmed unit built. This narrow-body 1984 version reused the playfield layout of Stern's 1980 title Quicksilver, dressed in new Lazer Lord artwork, as Stern -- by then with no in-house pinball designers left -- tried to move remaining parts and a stock of Lazer Lord backglasses before exiting the pinball business.

The machine carries a Fantasy theme and a standard set of solid-state-era hardware: two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 4-bank and a 3-bank of drop targets, seven standup targets, two spinning targets, two star rollovers, and a kick-out hole. It was shown at a trade show under the tagline "Pinball Is Back!!!" but never entered production.

This 1984 prototype should not be confused with a separate, earlier 1982 wide-body whitewood also named Lazer Lord, which had a different playfield design and is generally credited as designer Joe Joos Jr.'s original concept for the game. The 1984 unit is essentially a rebadged Quicksilver, making it a curious footnote at the very end of Stern Electronics' original run as a pinball manufacturer.
