About This Machine

Deluxe Baseball, manufactured by Midway Manufacturing Company of Chicago and announced in Cash Box in March 1962, is an electro-mechanical bat game from the early years of Midway's history, the company having been founded only in 1959. Rather than a conventional pinball, it puts a metal bat in the player's control for a baseball-style scoring experience.

The game boasts several distinctive gameplay features. The playfield includes a ramp that moves up and down, and the back wall of the playfield carries three tiers, each of which allows a Home Run to be made; this Home Run arrangement is a carry-over feature. The displayed "High Score To Date" could be optioned by the operator to change with each new game.

Deluxe Baseball was housed in a widebody cabinet advertised at 28 inches across, and was available in both "replay" and "regular" models, letting operators choose the award scheme that suited their locations. As an early Midway bat game with unusual mechanical features, it remains an interesting find for collectors of baseball-themed coin-op amusements.
