TV Flipper
About This Machine
TV Flipper (also styled "T.V. Flipper" in the manual and flyer) is a 1975 solid-state video game from Midway Manufacturing Company (model 588), whose name is suggestive of pinball but which is not actually a pinball machine. It is a 2-player video amusement game.
Play is priced at 25 cents per player, with the operator able to select games of 3, 4, or 5 balls. As a video game rather than a physical pinball machine, TV Flipper has no real playfield, flippers, or targets -- gameplay takes place entirely on screen, using electronic circuitry to simulate a ball-and-flipper-style contest.
Given its age and its status as a lesser-known Midway title, little information is available about the machine's designer or the specifics of its on-screen presentation. Its main curiosity for collectors today is its pinball-evocative name applied to what is, in fact, an early video game.
