Commando Machine Gun
About This Machine
The Commando Machine Gun, manufactured by Chicago Coin Machine Manufacturing Company and shipped around July 1972, is an electro-mechanical (EM) warfare-themed shooting game - not a flipper pinball. Note this is a distinct, later title unrelated to Chicago Coin's earlier 1957 game of the same name.
The game offers operator-adjustable pricing (one play for 25 cents or two for 25 cents) and a timer to add urgency to each round. A panoramic mirror in the target area creates a three-dimensional effect within the shooting gallery, and the game uses solid-state sound circuitry rather than a tape-based system - a technical step up from many of Chicago Coin's tape-driven EM titles of the period. Blacklighting rounds out the presentation.
Little is documented about the machine's designer or its commercial reception, though its warfare theme fits within the broader trend of military-themed shooting games popular with operators in the early 1970s.
