About This Machine

Flying Ducks, manufactured by Chicago Coin Machine Manufacturing Company and produced beginning around August 1973, is an electro-mechanical (EM) shooting-gallery game - not a flipper pinball - with a sports/hunting theme, joining other Chicago Coin hunting-themed titles like the earlier Safari Rifle. It was reportedly unveiled at Chicago Dynamic Industries' inaugural national service seminar for distributor technicians, held in Chicago that July.

Flying Ducks is built around a duck-hunting mechanic: the ducks move in simulated flight with flapping wings and fall when hit, while a dog barks on every successful shot. Play costs 25 cents and offers unlimited shots subject to an adjustable timer, with an extended-play option and blacklighting rounding out the presentation.

Little else is documented about the machine's designer, but its animated duck targets and barking-dog sound effect make Flying Ducks a memorable, if lesser-known, entry in Chicago Coin's line of hunting-themed shooting games.
