Coney Island Rifle
About This Machine
The Coney Island Rifle is an electro-mechanical (EM) shooting-gallery-style game manufactured by Chicago Coin Machine Manufacturing Company, released in May 1976 as a carnival-themed entry - not a traditional flipper pinball table. Cash Box reported it began shipping that May following location tests, and while the trade press referred to it simply as "Coney Island," the backglass and factory flyer used the full title "Coney Island Rifle."
Gameplay centers on the game's amusement-park/carnival theme, with an adjustable pricing scheme letting operators charge 25 cents for one play or offer two plays for the same quarter - a flexible pricing option typical of coin-op machines of the era.
Produced in 1976, one of Chicago Coin's final years of operation before the company closed in 1977, the Coney Island Rifle offers a look at the classic carnival/rifle-gallery genre that was common in that period.
