About This Machine

Total Nuclear Annihilation, released by Spooky Pinball in September 2017, is an original design conceived, designed, and largely built by Scott Danesi, who handled the game's mechanics, music, sound, and (with Michael Ocean and Jimmy Lipham) its software. Running on a Multimorphic P3-ROC controller, 550 units were confirmed produced, carrying an MSRP of $5,995.

The warfare-themed game centers on a distinctive 3-in-line drop target bank with ball-locking capability: hitting the first two targets physically locks up to two balls, and a shot to the third releases everything for a 3-ball multiball. Additional features include three flippers, a pop bumper, five slingshots, 11 standup targets, two scoops, a spinning target, a ball-save display, an LCD screen alongside dedicated numeric score displays, and a red beacon topper.

One of the game's signature touches is audio: a 12-inch powered subwoofer is built into a custom sub-chamber in the bottom of the cabinet, delivering heavy bass to match its aggressive theme. Dots animation was created by David Van Es and Matt Andrews. Fast, stripped-down gameplay paired with its retro-futuristic presentation has made it a distinctive entry in Spooky Pinball's catalog, though pinball has explored military and warfare themes many times over its history, so it is not a first for the medium.
