About This Machine

The Alien pinball machine, released by Heighway Pinball, Ltd. in February 2017, is a widebody, licensed sci-fi title based on the Alien film franchise. Dennis Nordman did the initial playfield design, though Dave Sanders took over and reportedly changed it considerably before release, making him the credited designer.

Alien's gameplay is characterized by an intense sci-fi experience with numerous unique features. Players interact with four flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, two spinning targets, two magnets, and a magnetic ball-grabber that extends out of the Xenomorph's mouth at the top of the playfield. The machine also includes a 3-bank drop target, kick-out hole, scoop, and automatic plunger, along with multiball play.

One of the most striking aspects of Alien is its elaborate design and art, bringing the movie's iconic creature to life on the playfield. A large LCD is set flush into the center playfield, with a smaller LCD mounted on the upper playfield, and the pop bumpers feature color-changing lamps. Playfield illumination is fully color-changing LED, with non-color-changing LEDs in the backbox and cabinet. Garret Popek designed, sculpted, and fabricated the Xenomorph and Facehugger toys, adding a tactile centerpiece to this widebody machine.
