Cantabria
About This Machine
Cantabria is a pure mechanical (pin game) machine with a Whiffle-board design, dating to circa the early 1930s. Its manufacturer is unidentified, though a slightly damaged instruction card survives, titled "Dillar Moderno Cantabria."
For a 10-centime coin, players received 8 balls. The playfield includes 24 trap holes and two out-hole troughs at the bottom, and colored balls count double toward the score. Instructions on the card direct players to insert the coin, hold a button until all balls have dropped, use a handle on the right to release a ball, and pull and release a button on the right to launch it.
As an early, pre-flipper pin game with no confirmed manufacturer, Cantabria offers a glimpse into the mechanical, coin-operated amusement machines that predated the pinball industry's more familiar electromechanical era.
