About This Machine

Bowl-A-Ray, produced by Genco Manufacturing Company around 1950, is not a pinball machine but a bowling-themed electromechanical game. Genco's own records are inconsistent about the exact date, pointing to either April 1949 or April 1950 for its sample run.

The game never advanced beyond a small run of 25 sample units, and it's unclear why Genco chose not to put it into full production. Surviving documentation is thin - the clearest trace is a 1951 Cash Box want ad from a Wisconsin buyer looking for a 'Genco Bowl-A-Ray 1950 Model.'

Because so few units were made and so little contemporary coverage survives, Bowl-A-Ray remains one of the more obscure entries in Genco's run of bowling-themed coin-operated games from this period.
