Trio
About This Machine
The Trio, designed by Ted Zale and released by Bally in November 1965, is an add-a-ball electro-mechanical (EM) pinball machine offered alongside a standard replay version. Like other add-a-ball games of its era, its backglass features a window labeled "Added Balls," and it can be set up for 3-ball or 5-ball play, giving operators flexibility depending on local regulations.
From a gameplay perspective, the Trio offers a mix of standard 1960s pinball elements. Its theme, centered around happiness, music, singing, and dancing, is reflected in its artwork and cheerful presentation, typical of Bally's output during this period.
As an electro-mechanical machine from Bally, a leading manufacturer during the golden age of pinball, the Trio marks a snapshot of mid-1960s design conventions before the industry's later shift to solid-state technology. A companion add-a-ball version of Trio was also produced for the Italian market.
