De Luxe Jungle Gun

The De Luxe Jungle Gun, produced by United Manufacturing Company in July 1954, is a rare and fascinating electro-mechanical gun game, not a pinball machine. With its Sports-Hunting-Safari theme, it transported players to the wilds of Africa for a shooting-gallery-style experience, and it was produced alongside the near-identical 'Jungle Gun' (without Match-A-Score).

Gameplay-wise, the De Luxe Jungle Gun offers 20 shots for just 10 cents, making it an affordable and accessible option for players. An "extra shot" feature rewards players with five additional shots for every 20 hits, adding an element of strategy to the game. With a maximum displayed point score of 850 points — a perfect score — players had a tangible goal to strive for.

The De Luxe Jungle Gun's cabinet, advertised at 73 inches high and 31 inches wide, is imposing, with a striking visual theme that immerses players in the excitement of the safari. Limited information is available on this machine's designer or other trivia surrounding its creation, but as a well-documented example of a mid-century shooting gallery game, it remains an interesting find for collectors and enthusiasts of coin-op history.
