About This Machine

Le Prima stands as an enigmatic pure mechanical pinball machine, believed to date from circa the early 1930s. Its exact manufacturer remains unknown, but its presence is a testament to the pioneering spirit of early pinball innovation. As a mechanical-only game, Le Prima eschews electromechanical or electronic components in favor of intricate mechanisms that rely on physical movement and gravity.

Playthrough reveals an array of features, chief among them a shooter lane that allows the ball to loop 360 degrees around the playfield before entering play. The presence of 14 trap holes and a free-play hole adds an element of strategy and unpredictability to gameplay. Notably, the machine's design emphasizes simplicity and functionality over elaborate artwork or theme -- in the surviving photos, the playfield and cabinet are unpainted.

The name "Le Prima" etched in the lower playfield is an intriguing touch, capitalized except for a lower-case "i" with the "A" represented by a triangle (the Greek letter Delta). This is a pin table, distinct from a similarly named counter game by an unknown manufacturer. As an early pure mechanical machine, Le Prima offers a glimpse into the developmental stages of the game, providing an absorbing subject for pinball historians and enthusiasts alike.
