About This Machine

El Valiente, manufactured by Salor, S.A. of Barcelona, Spain in 1961, is an electro-mechanical pinball machine with a Western adventure theme, part of a wave of Spanish EM pinball production in the 1960s.

The machine's most distinctive gameplay feature is its flipper placement: the two flippers sit together at the bottom of the playfield with no lane between them and are mounted in reverse orientation. Four pop bumpers and twelve rollover buttons round out the scoring layout, with bulb scoring used throughout. Notably, the machine has no slingshots.

The design features a rectangular backbox whose front frame flares out on each side around the backglass, along with a metal cigarette holder mounted on each side rail—a detail typical of Spanish EM cabinets of the period. Little further trivia has been documented about the machine's history, but its unusual flipper arrangement makes it a distinctive piece of Spanish pinball design from the early 1960s.
