About This Machine

Metallica (Pro LED), released by Stern Pinball in August 2014, is an LED-upgraded version of Stern's 2013 'Metallica (Pro)', advertised by the manufacturer as fitted with "vivid, energy-efficient LED lighting" throughout the playfield and cabinet. It was designed by John Borg, with software by Lyman F. Sheats Jr., Lonnie D. Ropp, and Mike Kyzivat.

Gameplay features two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, a captive ball, a Newton ball, and three in-line drop targets. A standout toy is an electric chair with the "Sparky" figurine — voiced by Brendon Small, who also voices "The Snake" elsewhere in the game's audio. The backbox translite displays caricature-style artwork of the band members.

Metallica (Pro LED) shipped with an MSRP of $5,595. Beyond confirmed press releases noting its release, IPDB notes that no manufacturer flyer or manual specific to this LED version has surfaced, so it isn't fully documented whether all or only most of the incandescent bulbs were replaced with LEDs.
