About This Machine

Granada is an electro-mechanical pinball machine from Zaccaria of Bologna, Italy, produced during the company's 1974-1987 run. It is, notably, an adaptation of Williams' 1972 'Granada,' built by Zaccaria using reused Williams hardware -- which explains why a Williams logo still appears on the game despite Zaccaria's own name being stamped inside the backbox and lower cabinet. The cabinet artwork itself is actually borrowed from a different Williams title, the 1967 'Touchdown,' matching that game's backbox style, while the playfield layout differs from the original Williams 'Granada.'

The game's feature set is robust for a single-player EM machine: 20 drop targets, three standup targets, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, and a pair of flippers. Despite the wealth of components, the origins and full design intent behind this reworked version remain only partly understood, and IPDB notes it is actively seeking input from owners of the game.

Granada is a good example of the cross-manufacturer component-sharing that was common in the European pinball market of the 1970s, where successful designs from major American makers were adapted, rebadged, or reused by regional companies like Zaccaria.
