Disney TRON Legacy (3rd Edition)
About This Machine
The Disney TRON Legacy (3rd Edition), released by Stern Pinball in 2012, is the third production run of Stern's 2011 'Disney TRON Legacy,' following the original run and a 2011 Limited Edition run. Designed by John Borg with art by John Youssi, it uses Stern's S.A.M. Board System.
The most obvious differences from the earlier runs are that the cabinet art is applied as decals rather than screen-printed, and the translite displays the faces of five characters from the movie, including the character CLU (Codified Likeness Utility) wearing a mask -- the so-called "CLU translite." This same CLU translite was also used on the later 4th Edition run. Toys include two motorcycles, a Recognizer figure (non-moving on this edition), and a TRON video arcade cabinet replica.
On this and later Editions, Stern provided the wiring for a shaker motor but did not include the motor itself, leaving customers to source one from after-market providers. Because the four TRON Legacy editions are distinguished mainly by subtle cabinet and translite differences, collectors typically rely on the manufacturer's sticker on the back of the cabinet to confirm which production run a given machine belongs to.

- Notable Features:
- This is a third production run of Stern's 2011 'Disney TRON Legacy', following the second 2011 "Limited Edition" run. The most obvious differences from the first two runs are that the cabinet art are decals (not screened) and the translite shows the faces of five characters from the movie. The center character is named CLU (Codified Likeness Utility) and is shown wearing a mask. This is the so-called "CLU transl ite". The CLU translite was also shipped with the fourth production run of this game, Stern's 2013 'Disney TRON Legacy (4th Edition)'. If a game has a CLU translite displayed in its backbox, the manufacturer sticker on the back of its cabinet should clarify from which production run the game was made. On all Editions after the first one, the manufacturer provided the wiring for a shaker motor but did not provide the motor itself. Customers had to buy the shaker motor from after-factory providers.
