About This Machine

Energie IV is a re-themed, one-of-a-kind version of Bally's 1971 electro-mechanical machine 'Mariner'. Rather than an original design, its playfield and hardware are Bally's Mariner underneath a new German-language theme: the four players are each given a unique energy-related identity -- Uran (uranium), Kohle (coal), Gas (natural gas), and Öl (oil) -- making it a curious artifact of custom re-theming rather than a distinct factory release. Only one unit is known to exist.

The machine retains Mariner's original feature set: two flippers, three pop bumpers, three mushroom bumpers, two slingshots, and five standup targets, along with a kick-out hole, an upper right kickback lane, a right outlane ball-return gate, an up-post between the flippers, and an upper left chicane lane that awards lit features.

As a unique re-themed EM machine, Energie IV offers collectors an interesting look at how operators or hobbyists customized existing games with new identities, giving old hardware a fresh theme rather than letting it fade into obscurity.
