About This Machine
This untitled Bally Manufacturing Corporation backglass and playfield design centers on a horse-racing theme, with artwork by Lester Hilbrich dated December 12, 1947. Its unusual design features long ribbons in place of the more typical crowd-at-the-racetrack scenes, along with numerous racing horses - a layout that does not match any known production game.
Because no matching production title has been identified, little is documented about intended gameplay, though as a horse-racing themed electro-mechanical single-player game of this era, it would likely have used the mechanical relays and switches typical of Bally's late-1940s output.
Sports-themed pinball, and horse racing in particular, was a popular subject for manufacturers in this period. This piece stands as an example of Bally's design work from December 1947 that, as far as is currently known, was never matched to a released game.
