About This Machine

Jungle Drum is a backglass concept created for Bally Manufacturing Corporation, with artwork by Lester Hilbrich. A color drawing is dated October 18, 1947 (revised October 20, 1947), and a black-and-white "Revised Sketch" is dated October 28, 1947. As far as is known, this design was never produced as an actual game, unless it later appeared under a different name not yet matched to this artwork.

Because Jungle Drum never reached production, no details of its gameplay, mechanics, or rules survive - only the artwork itself remains. Its "Foreign People" theme reflects a jungle setting, one of several exotic and international motifs Bally's artists explored during this period.

Jungle Drum stands as an example of the many concept pieces created during Bally's design process in the late 1940s that never made it to the factory floor, offering a small window into ideas considered but not ultimately manufactured.
