Prosperity
About This Machine
Prosperity, manufactured by Ideal Steel Products Corp. of Chicago in 1932, is a pure mechanical table-top/counter game from the earliest years of coin-operated pinball. Released at the height of the Great Depression, its hopeful name and timing suggest it may have offered players a small dose of escapism during a difficult economic era.
Gameplay on Prosperity is straightforward: players insert either 1 or 5 cents, corresponding to a set of 7 or 10 balls put into play. The balls interact with the playfield's targets and obstacles in the pre-flipper style typical of the period - flippers would not be introduced to pinball until the late 1940s.
The cabinet is advertised as 23 inches long and 13 inches wide. Beyond these basic mechanical and dimensional details, little further information survives about Prosperity's design, artwork, or original release circumstances.
