Criss Cross
About This Machine
Criss Cross, manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in February 1958, is a classic example of late-1950s electro-mechanical (EM) pinball design. Designed by Wayne Neyens with artwork by Roy Parker, this single-player game carried a snow skiing theme and had a confirmed production run of 1,900 units. Its backglass carries Gottlieb's famous slogan: 'Amusement Pinballs, as American as Baseball and Hot Dogs!'
Criss Cross offers a solid array of gameplay features, including two flippers, five pop bumpers, two slingshots, two gobble holes, and two bullseye targets, all of which contribute to a fast-paced and challenging experience. One of the most distinctive aspects of the game is its roto-target, which uses colors rather than the numbers or other symbols typically found on such targets.
With the pairing of designer Wayne Neyens and artist Roy Parker—one of the most prolific creative teams of Gottlieb's golden age—Criss Cross makes an appealing addition to any pinball collection, particularly for enthusiasts interested in EM games and recreational themes of the era.
