Hole Whack
About This Machine
Hole Whack, manufactured by Bill Port of Madrid, Spain in 1977, is a rare and intriguing addition to any pinball collection. It is a golf-themed electro-mechanical (EM) machine, notable as a late-era EM design produced after most major manufacturers had already transitioned to solid-state electronics.
Hole Whack features two flippers, two pop bumpers, two 3-bank drop targets, three standup targets, and dual inlanes on either side of the playfield, with no slingshots. The machine's unique design includes a wedge-shaped backbox and small numbered wheels displaying the match number and ball-in-play information. The example examined also had a digital score display alongside a hidden bank of four score reels in the backbox, unseen by the player, suggesting a transitional or hybrid scoring setup.
Limited research has been conducted on this specific title, leaving much to be discovered about its design, art, or broader theme execution. Its unusual combination of features and the lack of extensive documentation make it a fascinating specimen for those interested in exploring lesser-known international pinball manufacturers.
