About This Machine

Barbarella is an electro-mechanical pinball machine whose manufacturer and exact production date remain unconfirmed. One recollection describes a plaque reading "Talleres del Llobregat" dated 1967; another recalls a plaque reading "Automaticos del Sur"; and a separate, unsourced report suggests 1972. The game's cabinet dimensions, coin door, and start-button placement resemble those of Automaticos' 1970 '7-Up', which may point toward that manufacturer, though this is unconfirmed. The machine takes its name from Barbarella, the French science-fiction comic strip character created in 1962 and later adapted into a 1968 film.

Gameplay features two flippers, five pop bumpers, two slingshots, two standup targets, and a bullseye target, all housed in a drop-down cabinet. The backglass includes a light animation depicting a color roulette wheel, and sound is provided by three bells and a knocker.

Given the uncertainty around its history, Barbarella remains something of a mystery among collectors, its outer-space fantasy theme and colorful backglass animation making it a notable, if enigmatic, piece of vintage EM pinball.
