Oxford
About This Machine
Oxford, manufactured by Maquinas Recreativas Sociedad Anonima (Maresa) of Madrid, Spain, is an electro-mechanical pinball machine whose exact release year is not documented, though its playfield layout and art are adapted directly from Gottlieb's 1969 'College Queens,' with only minor color changes. The backglass reuses much of the same artwork from that game as well, and the lower cabinet features the drop-down front end and large coin door used on Williams games until 1966.
Gameplay features a classic EM layout, with two flippers, four pop bumpers, two slingshots, four standup targets, and two vari-targets. A free ball return lane adds an extra layer of excitement, and the backglass includes an 'Ultima Bola' ('Last Ball in Play') light. Sound is provided by two bells and a knocker, typical of EM machines of this style.
The Oxford's theme blends college life, music, and sports (Oxford University itself is located in Oxford, England). While detailed information about the machine's original release is scarce, its close relationship to a well-documented Gottlieb title helps place it within the broader landscape of Spanish EM pinball production.
