Kings of the Road
About This Machine
Kings of the Road is an unproduced solid-state pinball design from Game Plan, Incorporated, the Illinois manufacturer active from 1978 to 1985. Designer John Trudeau completed the playfield layout and artwork around 1981, intending it to run on the same game program as Game Plan's 1979 'Star Trip.' However, Game Plan ceased pinball production around that same time, so no whitewood was ever built and the game was never manufactured — Trudeau kept his original artwork, some of which survives as film photographs.
Because it never reached production, little is known about specific gameplay features. Its car-culture theme suggests it was meant to explore America's fascination with the open road, in keeping with Game Plan's other solid-state titles of the era.
As one of the more thoroughly undocumented "lost" designs in pinball history, Kings of the Road survives only as artwork and design notes rather than a playable machine, making it a curiosity for historians tracing Game Plan's final years before the company's brief hiatus and 1983 return to pinball production.
