Bongor
About This Machine
Bongor, manufactured in 1975 by Maquinas Recreativas Sociedad Anonima (Maresa) of Madrid, Spain, is a one-player electro-mechanical machine with a jungle theme. It is a Spanish adaptation of Gottlieb's 1972 four-player 'Jungle' -- the backglass features the same characters and animals as the Gottlieb original.
Gameplay includes two flippers, one pop bumper, two slingshots, ten star rollovers, two standup targets, a spinning target, a left kickback outlane, and a right outlane ball return gate, awarding an end-of-ball bonus. The cabinet is a drop-down, wedge-head style typical of European EM machines of the period.
As a European adaptation of an American design, Bongor offers an interesting look at how manufacturers outside the US licensed or reworked popular themes for their local markets, making it a notable find for collectors of Spanish pinball history.
