Totem
About This Machine
Totem is an electro-mechanical pinball machine from Electromatic Brasil, a copy of Gottlieb's 1979 'Totem.' As with other Electromatic Brasil titles, it reproduced a Gottlieb design for the Brazilian market rather than representing new design work of its own, placing it near the end of the EM era rather than its early days — solid-state machines had already become dominant elsewhere by 1979.
The game features two flippers with an offset layout, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, four standup targets, four star rollovers, three sets of 2-bank drop targets, a vari-target, a kick-out hole, and left dual inlanes, scoring up to a maximum of 199,990 points per player. Sound is provided by three chimes rather than electronic tones, consistent with its EM design.
The American West theme follows Gottlieb's original. Little independent information exists about Electromatic Brasil's operations or this particular release, but the machine offers an interesting look at how Gottlieb designs were reproduced for the South American market.
