About This Machine

The Texan is an electro-mechanical pinball machine made by Alben of France, produced under license from Gottlieb around 1960, sharing its playfield layout with Gottlieb's own 1960 'Texan.' It was built in both 2-player and 4-player versions; despite the Alben-branded cabinet (a distinctive Formica laminate finish popular in France at the time), the backglass and playfield still carry the Gottlieb logo.

Gameplay features two flippers, three pop bumpers, six passive bumpers, two slingshots, four standup targets, one roto-target, and three kick-out holes plus two gobble holes, with games played over 3 or 5 balls. The American West theme is drawn directly from Gottlieb's original design.

Specific details about Alben's operations and this game's designer are not well documented, and manufacturer records for the company remain scarce. It nonetheless stands as an interesting example of licensed European pinball production in the early 1960s.
