$1,000,000 Pool
About This Machine
$1,000,000 Pool is an unproduced Gottlieb game concept, known only from its appearance — model number 650 — on the last of the company's surviving Engineering Game Cards, dated February 13, 1979. It was designed for six players, though Gottlieb has no known record of ever actually manufacturing a six-player pinball machine, and the game never advanced past this concept stage.
Curiously, designers John Osborne and Wayne Neyens, who worked in Gottlieb's Engineering Department at the time, don't recall this specific game or its name — Neyens has noted that engineers often referred to games internally by model number rather than title, which may explain the gap in memory. Because it appears at the bottom of the Game Card (the most recently arrived design), its origins and intended release timeframe remain unclear.
Since $1,000,000 Pool was never built, no information exists about its actual gameplay, artwork, or features. It survives today only as a line item on an internal document, making it a curiosity for historians researching Gottlieb's unproduced and prototype designs rather than a machine any collector could ever own.
