Disney TRON Legacy
About This Machine
The Disney TRON Legacy pinball machine, produced by Stern Pinball starting in 2011, brought the visual style of the Tron: Legacy film to the pinball table. Designed by John Borg with artwork by John Youssi and sound/music by David Thiel, the game builds an immersive Grid-inspired playfield around the movie's world, following in the footsteps of many earlier Stern games built around licensed properties.
The gameplay centers on the game's distinctive theme: three flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, and eight stationary standup targets are joined by two spinning targets, a 3-target dropping bank, and a right-side dual-inlane arrangement leading toward a central spinning disc. Two motorcycle toys and a Recognizer figure (stationary on this first-run model) sit above the playfield alongside a TRON video arcade cabinet toy, reinforcing the film's aesthetic. The cabinet, advertised at 55 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 75 1/2 inches high, carries screened cabinet art rather than decals.
This first production run is distinguished from later Disney TRON Legacy editions by its 3D translite, a feature unique to this initial release, which was followed by a Limited Edition and later 3rd and 4th Editions. Notably, Stern did not include a shaker motor from the factory, though an after-market kit was available for players wanting to add one. With an MSRP of $5,699 at launch, Disney TRON Legacy remains a popular and recognizable licensed title in Stern's catalog.
