About This Machine

The Iron Man Classic pinball machine, designed by John Borg and released by Stern Pinball in 2010, is the coinless, home-model version of Stern's standard 2010 'Iron Man' machine, tied to the Iron Man 2 movie. It runs on the Stern S.A.M. board system, with software by Lonnie D. Ropp and Lyman F. Sheats Jr., dot-matrix animation by Mark Galvez, and music/sound by David Thiel.

Gameplay follows Stern's standard Iron Man ruleset: players battle Ivan "Whiplash" Vanko, shoot down Justin Hammer's drones, and face Obadiah Stane's Iron Monger, while stacking multiballs such as Jericho Missile Mayhem, Bogey Multiball, and Iron Monger Multiball toward the "Do Or Die" wizard mode. A mechanical War Machine element fires the ball back toward the flippers, adding a physical dimension to the theme.

As a home model, the cabinet is advertised at 55 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 75 1/2 inches high, weighing about 250 pounds, and it carried an MSRP of $4,599. Games shipped to North America run on 60-cycle power only and are not compatible with 50-cycle regions like Europe. While it wasn't among the very earliest comic-licensed pinball machines — Stern itself had already released titles like Spider-Man a few years prior — Iron Man Classic remains a notable home edition of a popular Marvel-themed table.
