Marvel Super Heroes
About This Machine
Marvel Super Heroes, conceived by Roger Shiffman and Marc Rosenberg and designed by John Popadiuk and Chris Nicolella for Zizzle Arcade Pinball in 2007, is a home pinball machine built around Marvel's comic book characters, complete with a motorized spinning Dr. Doom figurine as its centerpiece toy. It was one of several licensed titles Zizzle released in this era, alongside its 2006 'Marvel Heroes vs. Villains' and its Pirates of the Caribbean home machines.
Gameplay-wise, Marvel Super Heroes offers two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, two standup targets, and a spinning target, all set against comic book-inspired artwork by Popadiuk and Katie Gyarmaty. The game's LCD scoring display, LED lighting, and music, sound effects, and speech work together for an immersive home-arcade experience. A single solenoid operates all three pop bumpers simultaneously, and a separate solenoid drives both slingshots together, while each full-size flipper has its own solenoid.
The wood playfield uses heat-transfer laminate artwork, paired with an injection-molded backbox, ramps, and playfield inserts. The cabinet is advertised at 34 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 54 inches high, running on a 110v/220v transformer. The game's design was protected by Design Patent D579,055, filed in September 2006 and granted in October 2008 to John Popadiuk Jr. and co-designers, underscoring its place among Zizzle's line of licensed home pinball machines.
