About This Machine

Big Indian is an electro-mechanical, single-player Add-A-Ball pinball machine whose manufacturer and designer remain undocumented. Its backglass, however, features the same posed warrior artwork found on Gottlieb's 1974 machine of the same name, strongly suggesting this is an unlicensed copy or clone produced around the same period — the mid-1970s — rather than the 1950s or 1960s.

The game carries an American West - Native Americans theme, reflected in its title and artwork. Gameplay includes two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 5-bank of drop targets, three star rollovers, two standup targets, and a vari-target, along with an end-of-ball bonus. It has a wedge head cabinet, and its scoring can display more than 1 million points.

Because so little is documented about its true origins, Big Indian remains something of a mystery — but the clear visual link to the Gottlieb original places it as a product of the pinball clone/copy market that existed alongside licensed originals in the 1970s.
