Soccer Champ

Soccer Champ is a rare and intriguing addition to any serious pinball collection. Produced by Valco Automatenbouw B.V., a small Dutch company from Bergen op Zoom that made skill games for traveling fairs, this solid-state counter-top game holds a niche place in pinball history. Its exact production year is unconfirmed, though it appears on a Belgian government list of approved fairground skill games dated to the year 2000.

Gameplay on Soccer Champ is straightforward: designed for use on long, circular fairground tables without legs, players insert a coin for roughly 30 seconds of play and use two flippers to hit targets and score a goal, aiming to reach a threshold score that pays out a token automatically. Additional tokens can be earned for higher scores, and the tokens are exchanged with the fairground stand-owner for prizes ranging from candy to large stuffed toys.

The machine shares its playfield design with Bell Games' 'World Cup / World Championship,' fitting its Sports - Soccer theme. Its compact dimensions and payout-via-tokens mechanic reflect its purpose as a pure game-of-skill amusement rather than a traditional home or arcade pinball machine, and its rarity today makes it an interesting find for collectors focused on European fairground gaming history.
