Chingy
About This Machine
Chingy is a 2004 solid-state pinball machine created as a promotional tie-in for Capitol Records, built around the rapper Chingy's Rap-themed branding. Rather than an original design, it is a re-theme of Bally Midway's 1986 'Black Belt' — only the backglass and cabinet art were changed, so its underlying playfield layout, rules, and hardware are those of the original 1986 machine.
Since Chingy inherits its gameplay directly from 'Black Belt,' players would experience that machine's late-1980s electromechanical-era flipper layout and scoring, now wrapped in rap-themed cabinet and backglass artwork rather than martial-arts imagery. This kind of promotional re-theme was a common way for record labels and brands to create a novel, branded item using existing pinball hardware.
As a limited promotional piece rather than a mass-market release, Chingy is a curiosity for collectors interested in music-industry pinball crossovers and re-themed machines, offering a snapshot of early-2000s hip-hop promotion married to a machine design from nearly two decades earlier.
