About This Machine

Iron Man is a four-player solid-state pinball machine designed by John Borg and released by Stern Pinball in 2010, built around the Marvel superhero and licensed to tie into the character's film franchise. It runs on Stern's S.A.M. board system, with music and sound by David Thiel and software by Lonnie D. Ropp and Lyman F. Sheats Jr.

The machine's standout feature is a motorized Iron Monger figurine that rises up from beneath the playfield, alongside a War Machine figurine among the game's toys. On the playfield, four drop targets on the left spell out letters toward "IRON" and three on the right toward "MAN" — though, per licensing requirements, the two words are never shown separated from each other, so the individual targets do not carry visible letters.

Housed in a large cabinet — 55 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 75.5 inches high, weighing 250 pounds — Iron Man carried an MSRP of $5,499 when new. A coinless home version was also released the same year as "Iron Man Classic." Stern later retroactively referred to this original model as "Iron Man Pro" to distinguish it from the 2014 "Iron Man (Pro Vault Edition)."
