About This Machine

The Mini Cooper S is a rare, one-of-a-kind electro-mechanical pinball machine built as a custom automotive-themed re-theme of Williams' 1976 game Grand Prix. Only a single unit is known to exist, making it a unique conversion rather than a factory production model, created by reworking an existing American-made Williams machine with new Mini Cooper S branding and artwork.

Because it is based on Grand Prix, its underlying gameplay -- flippers, bumpers, and other electromechanical features typical of a mid-1970s Williams machine -- follows that title's mechanics rather than an original ruleset. Its playfield and cabinet artwork were reworked to showcase the Mini Cooper S automobile, joining a small tradition of automotive-themed pinball machines, though it is a custom conversion rather than an early pioneer of the genre.

As a one-off re-theme, little else is documented about who created the conversion or when. There is no evidence the machine has a European origin -- Grand Prix, the base game, was manufactured by Williams in the United States. Its singular existence and custom theming make it a notable curiosity for collectors of customized and re-themed pinball machines.
