Old Coney Island!
About This Machine
Old Coney Island! is a vintage solid-state electronic pinball machine from December 1979, designed by Ed Cebula with artwork by Dick White and manufactured by Game Plan, Inc. of Illinois. Running on Game Plan's MPU-2 board with a confirmed production run of 3,000 units, it is a four-player title from the period when the young solid-state format was rapidly maturing. Pinball notable Roger Sharpe has said he contributed design input to the game.
The machine boasts a well-rounded feature set: two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, five star rollovers, two stand-up targets, a seven-bank of drop targets, a spinning target, and a kick-out hole. The seven-bank drop targets and spinner give the layout clear repeatable objectives, blending traditional playfield staples with the era's electronic scoring and sounds.
The machine's design and artwork embrace a classic circus and carnival theme, evoking the nostalgic charm of old Coney Island with colorful, whimsical illustrations. A production note for collectors: early games, like serial number 1074, featured a blue cabinet matching the one shown in the promotional flyer.
